William Kadell Obituary

WILLIAM KADELL

JERSEYVILLE -   William Anthony Kadell, 95, died at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Jerseyville on May 28, 1923, the fifth of twelve children born to William F. and Frances (Goetten) Kadell.

Growing up on the family farm, he learned early on the value of hard work and a strong devotion to his Catholic faith. Throughout his younger years, he worked on the farm, until joining the United States Army where he served in Europe during World War II.

After returning home, he worked at the International Shoe Factory, among a few other places, before accepting employment with Dixon Distributing in Godfrey, where he began as a driver.  During his 27 year career, he later became a salesman as well as a goodwill ambassador, visiting his clientele and solidifying longtime friendships, before retiring in 1983. He was perfect for the part, as He was always looking for a good time.

He loved being surrounded by friends and family, having a good time, and living  life to its absolute fullest.

He was a longtime member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, as well as the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree.

He married the former Vivian W. Marshall on June 21, 1947 in Jacksonville, and they shared 67 years together before her death on Dec. 24, 2014.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandy Weigler of Jerseyville; two sons and a daughter in-law, Gary Kadell and his companion, Nita Vespa of Godfrey and David and Martha Kadell of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren and their spouse, Shelly and Mark Kanallakan of Rosedale, Kevin and Mindy Hanneken, Jeremy and Sara Kadell, Jessica and Tim Dean all of Jerseyville, Katie and Kirk Jackson of Carlinville, John and Caitlin Kadell of Jerseyville, and Mattie and Nathan Shelton of Shipman; 17 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great Great Grandchildren; and two sisters, Eileen Archer of Shipman and Betty Weller of Jerseyville.
