WILLIAM GUNTHER

JERSEYVILLE - William H. Gunther, 86, died at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Jerseyville.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 26, 1938, the only child of Herbert P. and Arline B. (McIntosh) Gunther.

After graduating from high school, he attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he earned a degree in engineering.  His career as a self-employed engineering consultant took him to various locations throughout the country, landing in Jerseyville in 1993 from Darien, Illinois with his wife Mary, to be closer to family.

He married the former Mary Catherine Susnig on April 18, 1970 in Oak Park, Illinois, and together they shared 30 years of marriage before her death on December 16, 2000.

He then married Geraldine (Becker) Crandall on July 25, 2003 in Geneva, Illinois, and she survives along with her family.

Also surviving are a sister in-law, Beverly Susnig of Jerseyville; two nieces and their spouses, Rebecca and David Igo of Plano, Texas and Deanna and David Bridgewater of Jerseyville; and a nephew and his wife, Joseph and Cathy Susnig of Jerseyville; along with numerous great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Joseph Susnig.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Martin Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School Tuition Assistance Fund.
