Walter Grizzle Obituary

WALTER GRIZZLE

KANE - Walter Dale Grizzle, 92, passed away at 4:40 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Highland Health Care Center.

He was born on October 7, 1933, in Carrollton, Illinois, the son of the late Bill and Rose (Hyde) Grizzle.

Walter proudly served his country with the United States Army, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and pride. He spent many years working as a truck driver for Roger’s Fuel, a job he genuinely enjoyed. Outside of work, Walter could often be found tinkering with lawnmowers or sharing stories, something he was known for and did well. Whether recounting memories or simply passing the time, he had a way of keeping people engaged with his words.

He is survived by his three daughters, Diane “Di” (Craig) Barker of England, Kathy Phelps of Rolla, and Krysti Schaaf of Collinsville; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Gray of Carbondale and Amanda Phelps of Alton; a special nephew, Doug (Sherry Simmons) Grizzle of Brighton and great-nephew, Bobby Heath and his wife, of Carrollton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gene Grizzle, Chet Grizzle and Rosemary Chapman.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Burial will follow at Kane Cemetery, with the Tri-County Honor Guard conducting full military honors.
