Vonita Sue Crone Obituary

SUE CRONE

JERSEYVILLE – Vonita Sue Crone, 76, passed away at 6:36 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the home of her daughter and son in-law in Jerseyville.

She was born on November 28, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Laverne and Evelyn (DeSoto) Murrell.

Her marriage to Ronald L. Malley spanned 25 years and was blessed with three children, prior to his death on June 26, 1992. She later married Robert Manning, sharing in just four short years of marriage, prior to his passing. On November 20, 2004, she married Mitchell V. Crone, sharing in nearly 16 years of marriage, prior to his passing on August 29, 2020.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, choosing to stay home and raise her family until her husband Ronald’s passing, at which time she learned to drive and began working as a Line Server at Principia College in Elsah.

She centered her life around two simple, yet profound principles: Faith and Family. She was a faithful member of Grafton Full Gospel Church, where she was involved with the church choir and enjoyed traveling around to area nursing homes singing with her church family. She was incredibly proud of her three children, and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. There was nothing she enjoyed more than preparing a big meal and having everyone gathered together at the table.

Surviving are three children and their spouses, Michael and Janine Malley of Jerseyville, Brenda and Michael Smith of Jerseyville and John and Debra Malley of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren, Mitchell Malley and his companion, Megan Longendyke, of Kampsville, Kristen and Thomas Kirbach of Jerseyville, Austin and Larisa Malley of Kirkwood, Missouri, David and Megan Smith of Jerseyville, Caleb Smith and his companion, Faith Egelhoff, of Jerseyville and Trevor Smith and his companion, Jaden Newingham, of Jerseyville; four great grandchildren, Hadley Malley, Gauge, Lillian and Lucas Smith; four step-children, Diane and Bill Bates of O’Fallon, Illinois, Breion and Sue Crone of Brighton, Rhonda and Bill Bilbruck of Brighton and Fonda Owens of Brighton, along with their families; four brothers, Larry Murrell of Texas, Tracy (Eileen) Murrell of Colorado, Laverne Murrell Jr. of Texas and Lonnie Murrell of Hardin; as well as a sister, Beverly (Louie) Adkins of Fieldon.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gary, Randall, David and Vernon Murrell.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
