VIRGINIA SUE MONTGOMERY
JERSEYVILLE - Virginia Sue Montgomery, known lovingly throughout her life simply as “Sue,” passed away at 10:59 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Jersey Community Hospital.
She was born on September 18, 1937 in Marianna, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Marvin A. and Lois L. (Rowland) Latting.
Sue grew up on her parents’ cotton farm in Marianna, where she learned early the value of hard work and the strength of family. She graduated from Marianna High School in 1954, and in 1956 married her first husband, George. Together they made their home in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and in 1966, they adopted their son, Jay Turner, an immeasurable joy in her life.
In 1978, Sue settled in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she worked as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager for Save Way Food Company. Organized and reliable, Sue took great pride in her career and the friendships that came with it.
In 1981, Sue married Jerry Montgomery, and with that marriage her family grew to include his children, Amy and Mike. She cherished her role as a stepmother and took immense joy in her growing family. Sue loved dining out with friends, never turning down good company or good conversation. She and Jerry also discovered a shared hobby in learning to play the organ, which led them to some of their fondest memories together, on cruises where they spent time with fellow organ enthusiasts.
Family was the heart of everything for Sue. She treasured time with her grandchildren, and especially held close the memories of a special trip to Disney World with her granddaughter, Danielle. In 2025, she moved to Jerseyville to be closer to her son, Jay, and enjoyed the friendships she made while residing at Hawthorne Inn assisted living in Jerseyville.
Surviving are her brother, John Latting; her son, Jay Carlton Turner; her step-daughter, Amy Boaz; and two granddaughters, Danielle and Samantha.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, Jerry, at St. Charles Memorial Gardens at a later date.
