VIOLA DIAL
JERSEYVILLE – Viola Ruth Dial, 97, formerly of Odin, died at 12:55 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Jersey Community Hospital.
She was born on August 28, 1927 in Marion County, Illinois, one of nine children born to the late George and Eva (McDonald) Jourdon.
She married Gilbert C. Dial on June 2, 1946, and together they were blessed with four children and nearly 59 years of marriage before his death on February 1, 2005.
Viola was employed for many years with Hollywood Candy Factory in Centralia, where she took great pride in her work and enjoyed reflecting on the friendships and memories made there. In her later years, she found joy in sharing stories of her time at the factory, her retirement, and the simple pleasures of time spent with her family. Most recently, she enjoyed her brief but meaningful stay at High Point Residence Assisted Living in Jerseyville. The family would like to extend a “Thank You” to her care providers at High Point, Bounce Back of Jerseyville Manor and Jersey Community Hospital, all of whom cared for her with kindness and compassion.
Surviving are her three sons, Gleason (Sandy) Dial of Jerseyville, Clayton Dial of Salem, and David Allan (Mary) Dial of Centralia; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; as well as a brother, Leroy Jourdon of Rock Falls and a sister, Freda Goosetree of Kell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Gene West; three brothers, Charlie, Tom, and George Jr. Jourdon; and three sisters, Irene, Mildred, and Marie.
Private inurnment will take place at Palestine Cemetery in Iuka.
