VERNON WRIGHT

DELHI – Vernon L. Wright, 79, passed away at 2:32 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2024 at his residence.

He was born in Grafton, Illinois on July 16, 1944 and was the son of the late Loie Eugene and Georgia Naomi (Palmer) Wright and was a 1963 graduate of Jersey Community High School.

Vernon resided in Carrollton for many years, prior to settling back in Jersey County. He began his long and proud career with McDonnell-Douglas in Saint Louis, Missouri, remaining with the company as it transitioned to the Boeing Corp., and in July of 1999, retired after 32.5 years of service.

He enjoyed the simple things in life, and was known for his love of antiquing and his vast collection of cast iron pieces.

 Although he never had any children of his own, in the last years of his life he was blessed with the friendship and sense of family that he found in Brian and Becki Matthews. Over the course of the past 5 years, Vernon became a constant, warm and welcoming face at their place of business, Bigboy’s Donuts in Jerseyville, where he also gained many friendships with the store’s customers over the years. When his time here on Earth drew to a close, he was surrounded by the unwavering support and love of his family and friends.  

In addition to Brian, Becki and their family, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Lois M. Wright in infancy; as well as, Anita Goewey, Laveeda Reeves and Wanda Varble.

Per his wishes, no public services will be held.
