Timothy and Carol Dougherty Obituary

TIMOTHY DOUGHERTY

CAROL DOUGHERTY

KANE - Timothy Allen Dougherty, 60, and his wife, Carol Kay (Hunter) Dougherty, 59, died, just as they lived, together side by side, at 9:00 a.m., Sunday, September 15, 2024, at their residence, as a result of a house fire, along with their dog Jack.

Timothy was born on July 14, 1964, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was the son of the late Patrick L. and Frances (McCue) Dougherty.  Carol was born on September 2, 1965, in Jerseyville, Illinois, and was the daughter of Joseph Wesley and Doris (Cates) Hunter.

Tim graduated in 1982 from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville, and Carol graduated early in December 1983, as a member of the Class of 1984 from Carrollton High School in Carrollton.

Shortly thereafter, they were married on December 30, 1983, in Jerseyville, and together they have been blessed with 40 years of marriage and the joys of raising their five children in a home filled with love, encouragement and support.

Together, they showed their children the meaning of true love, dedication to one another through life's trials and tribulations, and always putting each other first.

Both Tim and Carol were blessed to have been born into large, loving families, and as a result, they passed those same virtues of love for family onto their children and grandchildren.   They both lived for their children and their lives became even more enhanced with the addition of grandchildren, who they were absolutely crazy over.

Tim was currently employed as a wireman through Local IBEW #309 in Collinsville, where he recently received his 25-year pin, and Carol had been employed with McDonalds in Jerseyville, retiring in 2008 as the store manager, after dedicating 25 years of loyal service.

They are survived by their children and their spouses, Amber and Manuel Mezo of Godfrey, Heather and Craig Davis of New Baden, Connor and Mariah Dougherty of Wright City, Mo., and Katelyn and Jeff Santel of New Baden; a very special daughter in-law, Jennifer Schultz of Fieldon; their eight grandchildren, Adrian, Vanessa, Anabel, Myles, Ella, Leo, Grayson Timothy and Lincoln.

Tim is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Mark and Vonda Dougherty of Roxana, Tracy and Mark Strebel of Chillicothe, Lisa and Scott Youngblood of Jerseyville, and Andy and Denise Dougherty of Olathe, Ks.

Carol is also survived by her mother, Doris (Cates) Thompson of Carrollton; her siblings and their spouses, Dorothy and Darrell Talley of Greenfield, Norma and Ned Pinkerton of Carrollton, Yvonne Harp of Carrollton, and Wesley Hunter of Indianapolis, IN.; and two half-sisters, Jeane (Bill) Bland of Kampsville and Jody Dietrich of Fairview Heights.

They were preceded in death by a son, Mason Patrick Dougherty on April 7, 2017; and a granddaughter, Mya Kay Dougherty of Feb. 28, 2010.

In addition to her father, Carol was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Wesley Hunter II; two sisters, LeDonna Johnson, and her twin sister, Cheryl Hamel; as well as her stepfather, Raymond Thompson.

Combined visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.  Pastor Tracy Strawberry will officiate.

They will be laid to rest alongside each other at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, and in honor of Tim's service to his country with the United States Army, military rites will be conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492.

Memorials may be given to their family, in care of the funeral home.
