Shirley Menzie Obituary

SHIRLEY MENZIE
JERSEYVILLE -  Shirley Ann Menzie, 78, died at 4:42 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, after a three month battle with cancer.

She was born in Carrollton, Illinois, one of four children born to Warren Edward "Gabby" and Louise (Retherford) Keele.

She graduated in 1961 from Carrollton High School, and attended cosmetology school and worked at Maholland's Cafe in Jerseyville prior to her marriage.

She married the love of her life, Charles Menzie on April 29, 1964 at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville and together they have been blessed with nearly 57 years of marriage.

Shirley's life was centered around family. She was caregiver from the word 'go", whether it was lovingly taking care of her parents and sister in their later years, or just seeing that every aspect of her family was taken care of. She took great pride in her home, and was an excellent cook. She left this world, knowing that her family truly loved her and appreciated everything, big and small, that she has done for them.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Menzie of Jerseyville; two daughters and a son in-law, Christina Rowling and Rachel and Jeron Egelhoff, all of Jerseyville; a granddaughter, Megan Louise Rowling of Decatur; a brother and sister in-law, Warren "Bud" and Bonnie Keele of Lyndon, Illinois; a sister in-law and brother in-law, Debbie and Bobby Joe Dean of Jerseyville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Adamson and Teresa Marie Keele, in infancy.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 noon, on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Father Martin Smith will officiate.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to either the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to the American Heart Association.
