Shelly Athey Obituary

SHELLY ATHEY

NEW BLOOMFIELD, MO – Shelly Dee (Kallal) Athey, 59, formerly of Jerseyville, passed away at 4:21 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2020 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

She was born on March 29, 1961 in Jerseyville and was the daughter of Gerald Jerome “Jerry” and Marcella (Calvert) Kallal.

Shelly grew up in Jerseyville and graduated with the class of 1979 from Jersey Community High School.

After graduation, she spent a brief period of time in Colorado, prior to relocating to the area and has resided in New Bloomfield, Missouri for the past 16 years.

She worked for nearly 16 years as a Secretary at Conoco Phillips in Hartford and was currently employed with Hogan Transportation in Fulton, Missouri.

Shelly enjoyed going to the Theatre with her co-workers; spending time outdoors tending to her flowers and watching the hummingbirds; her annual Spoon River Run and her cat, Simba, held a very special place in her heart.

Her passion, however, was that of being a devoted and supportive mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She could spend hours on the phone catching up with family and friends.

She was there for her family in every way imaginable, and later in life, assumed with role of Grandma, like no other.

She had a heart of gold and would drop everything she was doing at the opportunity to help anyone in need and her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on not only in their hearts and minds, but also in the many lives she enriched by being an Organ Donor.

Surviving are two daughters  and their spouses, Angela and David Drew of Alton, Crystal and Ryan Durbin of Pana; a step-son, Michael Athey of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Xavier Drew, Riley Durbin and Chasity Durbin; her identical twin sister, Kelly Long, and her husband, Bob, of Jerseyville; a sister and brother in-law, Terri and Jerry Blodgett of Ratcliff, Arkansas; her step-mother, Sylvia Kallal of Carrollton; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Kallal and her mother and step-father, Marcella and Edward Campbell.
