SHANE PEGRAM
GODFREY – Surrounded by the love of his family, Shane Michael Pegram, 46, passed away at 10:22 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on February 21, 1979 in Belleville, Illinois, the son of Steve Pegram and the late Susan Schmidt. Shane spent his early years in Fairview Heights before his family relocated to Jersey County, where he remained and built his life.
On September 2, 2005, he married the love of his life, the former Andrea Belcher, in Alton, Illinois, and together they shared nearly 20 years filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their four children.
Shane had a deep connection to the water. He attended River School, Inc. in Tennessee and, at just 19 years old, began his lifelong career on the river as a deckhand with Inland Marine. Through hard work and determination, he earned his Pilot’s license and proudly remained with Inland until its closure. For the past four years, he served with Florida Marine, where his skills, work ethic, and camaraderie left a lasting mark.
A true jack-of-all-trades, there was nothing Shane couldn’t do - roofing, plumbing, electrical work, and everything in between. He loved hunting and fishing, earning the nickname “Crappie Slayer,” and found peace in the outdoors. At home, he was always ready to fire up the grill for a perfectly cooked steak, spend time on the water boating with his family, or head off on a trip to make new memories together. He was a devoted family man who worked hard to provide the very best for those he loved, and he cherished every moment with them.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Shane could light up any room with his jokes and infectious smile. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved supporting and coaching his children in their sports. One of his proudest moments was when his oldest son, Trenton, followed in his footsteps to work on the river - starting under Shane’s guidance as his captain at Inland. He was equally proud of Conor for his dedication and service to our country in the United States Army, and of Ava and Jena for the countless hours they put into softball, creating core memories alongside their beloved dad.
Surviving are his wife, Andrea Pegram of Godfrey; his children, Trenton Pegram of Alton, Conor (Kylie) Pegram of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Ava Pegram of Alton, and Jena Pegram of Godfrey;his granddaughter, Elysia, with another grandchild on the way; his father, Steve Pegram and his wife, Sheryl Molloy of Dow; a sister, Sheariah Pegram and her wife, Kayla Beck of Alton; his father and mother-in-law, Greg and Barbara Belcher Sr. of Godfrey, with whom he shared a special bond; his brother-in-law and best friend, Greg Belcher and his wife, Christina of Godfrey; and his nephews, Gregory and Christopher Belcher, and niece, Kelsey Belcher.
In addition to his mother, Shane was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Sean Pegram.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 1 - 5p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 1713 Stamper Lane, Godfrey, IL 62035, the same place where Shane and Andrea celebrated their wedding nearly two decades ago.
