Ruth Agnes (Towner) Lazenby

RUTH LAZENBY

JERSEYVILLE – Ruth Agnes Lazenby, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 8:20 p.m., at Jerseyville Manor.

She was born on August 29, 1938 in Urbana, Illinois to the late James and Mildred (Wells) Towner.

She married Robert “Bob” Lazenby on August 25, 1957 in Urbana, Illinois and together they shared 66 years together before his passing on September 25, 2023.

She cherished time spent with family and friends and never missed an opportunity to visit with neighbors, often found sitting on her from porch sharing stories. 

Ruth was always up for an adventure, especially when it came to annual trips to Branson with her late husband, Robert.

A devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, she followed her team faithfully and shared her love for the game with those around her. She also worked side by side with her husband as co-owner of the IGA grocery store in Marissa, Illinois from 1984 until 1987.

She had a love for animals, especially her dog, Izzy.

Ruth lived her life by faith and love, instilling that in her kids and grandkids.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kim (Scott) Montgomery of Odon, IN.; a son-in-law, Darrell Mortland of Hardin; 4 grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Mortland of Batchtown, Matthew (Emily) Mortland of Glen Carbon, Mary Beth (Howard “Chip”) Johnson of Bella Vista, AR., and Zachary Montgomery of Bloomington, IN,; 6 great-grandchildren, Pepper Ann Mortland, Oliver Johnson, Bodie Mortland, Cole Mortland, Kymble Mortland, and Walter Johnson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Mortland; a brother, Leo Towner; three sisters, Loretta Lawyer, Patsy Davis, and Helen Towner.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m., until time of funeral services at 12 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
