Ronald Burnett Obituary

RONALD BURNETT

GODFREY – Ronald Harold “Ronnie” Burnett, formerly of Jersey County, died at 7:50 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Carrollton, Illinois on January 23, 1942 and was the son of the late Francis “Harold” and Dora “Pearl” (Wells) Burnett.

Ronnie graduated with the Class of 1960 from Greenfield High School and went on to serve our country honorably with the United States Army.

Following his return home from the service he married the love of his life, Kathleen Carter, on July 12, 1965 in Alton, Illinois. Ronnie and Kathy made their home in Dow, Illinois, where they raised their three children, prior to settling in Godfrey in 2021. Throughout their nearly 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with many wonderful memories together as a family.

Ronnie worked tirelessly to provide for his family, and never shied away from a hard day’s work. He was employed for many years as a Truck Driver with Trans Petro, until his health no longer allowed him the ability to drive a truck. He then went on to finish his working career with Lewis and Marsh, where he filled asphalt trucks.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, wood working and tending to the land on the farm. He also enjoyed working on cars, and following his retirement, was employed for a brief period as a Mechanic in Medora, Illinois.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Burnett of Godfrey; three children, Lora Burnett and her significant other, Ron Bardmass, of Alton; Cindy and Tony Lakin of Carrollton and Charlie and Crystal Burnett of Alton; two granddaughters, Katelyn and Kaylee Willenburg; as well as a brother and sister in-law, Richard and Roxie Burnett of Garland, Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Custer.
