RODNEY ROSS
CARROLLTON - Rodney Lee Ross, 83, died at 5:50 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton after a brief illness.


He was born in English Township, Jersey County, Illinois on August 14, 1937, one of two sons born to Richard Harvey and Ethel Marie (Turner) Ross.


Growing up in a farm family, Rodney learned early on the value of hard work. He was engaged in farming in Kane Township his entire life, and enjoyed a good card game, and his morning coffee groups in both Kane and Carrollton.


He married Mildred Pearl Kappler on March 16, 1960 in Bloomington, Illinois, and together were just two days short of celebrating 44 years of marriage before her death on March 14, 2004.


Surviving are his three children and their spouses, Richard and Laura Ross of Carrollton, Kenneth and Terri Ross of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and Deborah and Randall Stone of Roodhouse; 13 Grandchildren;14 Great Grandchildren; his step-mother, Alberta Davenport Ross of Carrollton; and a sister in-law, Wanda Ross of Carrollton.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Richard Ross.


Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 am. Friday.


He will be laid to rest in the Kane Cemetery.


Memorials may be given to the Kane Cemetery Association in care of the funeral home.
