Robert Virgil Kuehnel Sr.

Robert Virgil "Rob" Kuehnel Sr., 83, died at 4:45 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Jerseyville on April 22, 1941, the youngest of eleven children born to William H. and Viola E. (Grover) Kuehnel.

He grew up in Jerseyville, and graduated in 1960 from Jersey Community High School.   He was employed with the City of Jerseyville with the Water and Sewer Department and retired in 2003 after 35 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed bowling, where he participated on numerous teams and leagues throughout the years. He also was an avid softball player, a passion he passed down on to his children, and many summer nights were spent at the American Legion ball diamonds, whether he was playing or coaching.

He married Norma Ingersoll on December 8, 1959 at Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, and together they have shared nearly 65 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Kuehnel of Jerseyville; a son and daughter in-law, Tim and Ann Kuehnel of Fieldon; a daughter and son in-law, Beth and Mark Eldridge of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Brittany) Kuehnel of Dow, Justin Kuehnel of Jerseyville, Lydia Kuehnel of Clinton, Nathan Kuehnel of China, Reese (Julie) Kuehnel of Batchtown, Madison Eldridge and Peyton Eldridge both of Jerseyville; four great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Myers of Jerseyville; and two brothers and a sister in-law, James and Madeleine Kuehnel and Jake Kuehnel of Jerseyville; a brother in law- James "Jiggs" Kallal of Jerseyville; and a sister in-law, Mary Kuehnel of Alton; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Virgil "Bobby" Kuehnel Jr. who died August 3, 2013; four brothers and sister in-laws, Edward (Maxine) Kuehnel, Thomas (Marcella) Kuehnel, Eugene Kuehnel, and William (Sandy) Kuehnel; and three sisters and brothers in-law, Opal Kallal, Helen (Vernon) Bounds, and Edith (William) Scott, and a brother in-law, Rev. Clyde Myers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m., Saturday until time of funeral services at 12:30 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Deborah Lawson will officiate.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville.
