PHYLLIS WHITTLEMAN

JERSEYVILLE – Phyllis Karlene Whittleman, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 10:35 p.m. at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on July 30, 1946, in Carrollton, Illinois, the only child born to Harry L. and Alma (Marshall) Gibson.

A lifelong resident of Jerseyville, Phyllis graduated in 1964 from Jersey Community High School. She dedicated much of her life to her community, working as a Sales Associate at Wal-Mart in Jerseyville. Phyllis was known for her warmth, her love for crafting, and her deep joy in spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for a good story and a touch of gossip always brought a sparkle to her conversations and created lasting memories for those around her.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Carter of Godfrey; three cherished grandchildren, Nicholas (Anna) Carter of Godfrey, Peyton Carter of Alton and Alma Karlene Turner of Godfrey; and two precious great-grandchildren, Ila Grey and Ace Carter.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Gibson; her mother, Alma Pyle; and her son, Todd Turner.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her mother.

Phyllis’s family and friends will forever remember her hind heart, her lively spirit and the love she generously shared.
