PHYLLIS THORNSBURY
JERSEYVILLE - Phyllis Alice Thornsbury, 80, passed away at 5:54 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 18, 1940, and was the daughter of Francis "Frank" and Charlotte "Lottie" (Jazdzyk) Szynkowski.
She attended Detroit public schools, and met her future husband, Harold Edward Thornsbury in Michigan. The two married on May 1, 1965 in Alton, and together they raised their family in the Medora area.
Phyllis was a stay at home Mom, lovingly providing a caring and supportive home for her children, and later after they were raised, began working at Wal-Mart in Jerseyville, where she worked as a team member in Housewares for nearly 21 years.
She was a member of Eastland Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and was just a joy to be around. It didn't take much to engage her in a game of dice or cards, and was a fan of Bobby Vinton.
Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Anita and Mike Newman of Saint Charles, Mo., Wanda and Joe Bellitto of Brighton, Wayne and Nancy Thornsbury of Mokena, Angela and Glen Hildebrandt of Aurora, and Matthew Thornsbury of Shipman; a step son, Scott Taylor of West Plains, MO.; 14 Grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Nicole Newman of Union, Mo., Shelby and Kyle McGowan and Micah Newman all of Saint Charles, Mo., John Bellitto of Simi Valley, Ca., Jacob Bellitto of Brighton, Jesse Thornsbury of Jerseyville, Aubrey Thornsbury, Emma Thornsbury and Luke Thornsbury all of Mokena, Megan Thornsbury of Forest Park, Jordan and Michael Kane of Saint Louis, Mo.,Emily Hartley of Chicago, Matilynn Thornsbury and Blayne Thornsbury both of Shipman; six great grandchildren, Jude, Anna Mae, Ellianna,Hunter, Rose and David; two step grandsons, Connor and Evan Hildebrandt; and two sisters, Connie Hicks of Warren, Mi., and Theresa Balice of Shelby Township, Mi.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thornsubry on August 8, 2007; an infant daughter, Michelle Thornsbury; two grandsons, Derek Newman and Gabriel Thornsbury; a step-son, Randy Taylor; a brother, Frank Szynkowski; and a sister, Betty Hartlage.
Visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 noon on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Rev. John Gibson will officiate.
Burial will take place in the Maple Lawn Cemetery near Medora, Illinois.
Memorials may be given in honor of her daughter Angela, to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
