PENNY GILLILAND

ELSAH - Penny Lynn Gilliland, 65, passed away on at 9:55 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2025, at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. 

She was born on September 30, 1959, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of the late Donald and Shirley (Crossman) Magby.

On April 28, 1998, Penny married Kenneth “Junior” Gilliland Jr. at the Jersey County Courthouse. They shared 20 years of marriage, creating many cherished memories together, until his passing on June 1, 2018.

Penny had a deep love for the outdoors. She found joy in fishing, a passion she and Junior shared, spending countless peaceful hours together by the river. She also loved canoeing and could often be found feeding the stray cats around her home, caring for them as if they were her own.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cody and Drew Orbin of Livingston and Jesse and John Russell of Collinsville; three grandchildren; three brothers, Randy, Brad and Brian; as well as a step-brother, David, all of Hutchinson, Kansas. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa. 

No public services will be held.
