She was born on August 17, 1925, in Kane, Illinois, the daughter of the late Virgil and Maude (Ray) Hetzel.
As a young woman, Pauline worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville, before marrying the love of her life, George A. Whitlock, on March 25, 1944, in Jerseyville. Together, they were blessed with a son, Jerry, and Pauline devoted herself to raising him and caring for their home.
In her younger years, Pauline was an avid biking enthusiast, and found joy in crocheting beautiful blankets and pillows. She also enjoyed spending time in nature, walking and taking in the outdoors, and could always be counted on for a good game of bingo or cards. In her later years, she became known for her love of coloring books, filling countless pages with vibrant color and creativity.
A proud and active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary, Pauline was honored as a Gold Circle Member in 2019—an achievement she held dear. She was also a loyal supporter of Pork Chop Night at the Brass Door in Carrollton, never missing an opportunity to enjoy good food and good company.
Pauline lived a full and independent life and had been looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by her family.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Doris Whitlock of Godfrey; her grandson, Andrew Whitlock of Jerseyville; her granddaughter, Amanda Whitlock of Dow; and her great-granddaughter, Arianna Whitlock; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
