OPAL MARIE ERVIN
JERSEYVILLE – Opal Marie Ervin, 85, passed away at 7:24 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on June 10, 1938 in Alton, Illinois and was the daughter of the late William R. and Bertha L. (Corbin) Williams.
She was employed at the former Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville, where she worked for many years as both a housekeeper and as Activity Director. She also worked as a Bus Driver for Illinois Valley Economic Development for a brief period of time, prior to her retirement.
She centered her life around her faith and her family. A lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville, her church family truly became an extension of her own family.
In her later years, she moved in with her daughter, Teri and son in-law, Tim. During this time, she was able to create a special bond with her great-granddaughter, Layla and with the help of her grandchildren Jenna and Justin, the family was able to fulfill her wishes to remain at home.
Surviving are three children and their spouses, Eileen and Doug Cheatham of Godfrey, Teri and Tim Lathrom of Jerseyville and Kenny and Lori Ervin of Godfrey; five grandchildren, Adam (Katie) Kuehnel of Jerseyville, Jacob (Jennifer) Kuehnel of Alton, Justin Combs of Delhi, Jenna Lathrom of Delhi and Jonathon Cheatham of St. Louis, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Draven Kuehnel, Arianna Miller, Layla Dunham and Jonah Kuehnel; one great-great grandchild, Eliza Weiner; a sister, Shirley Doyle of Nebo; as well as a brother, Frank Boyer of O’Fallon, Missouri.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Camerer and three brothers, Michael, Douglas and Virgil Williams.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Services at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville. Pastor David Otten will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
