Neil Leon Fitzgerrel

Neil Leon Fitzgerrel, 82, died at 6:18 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2025 at La Bella of Alton.

He was born on October 16, 1942 in Carlinville, the son of the late N.L. Fitzgerrell and Velda (Jenkins) Fitzgerrel-Boston. Neil grew up in Carlinville and, in 1981, made Jersey County his home.

He served his country honorably with the United States Navy and went on to spend 35 years working as a Painter and Sandblaster with the IUPAT District Council #58, traveling extensively throughout the continental United States for his work before retiring. Along the way, he also owned and operated Squeeks Tavern in Fieldon.

Neil enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors with his crossbow, but his greatest joy was found in the time shared with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Terry Fitzgerrel of Jerseyville, Dawn Fitzgerrel-Lewis of Alabama, and Lynzey Fitzgerrel of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Dustin McKinnon of Alabama, Lincoln Fitzgerrel of Jerseyville, Can Dee Michelle Seigler of Champaign, and Vivian Sadler of Jerseyville; a great-granddaughter, Ava Seigler of Champaign; a sister and brother-in-law, Penny and John Young of Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Mary Michelle and Kendell Jay Fitzgerrel; as well as two siblings, Patty Jo Leefers and Nolan Fitzgerrel.

Private services will be held at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with burial following at Moore Cemetery in Carlinville.
