MYRTLE POINTER
JERSEYVILLE – Myrtle Elizabeth Pointer, 95, passed away at 7:10 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on July 23, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Vera (Neal) Taylor and was a graduate of Jersey Township High School.
She married Donald Pointer on August 1, 1945 and together they shared in 55 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 8, 2001.
Donald and Myrtle worked side by side, building their business, White Way Sanitation, and both possessed an incredible work ethic and commitment to their business, their family and their customers for over 40 years.
They were also blessed to have had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout their married life, both domestically and abroad, creating many cherished memories along the way.
Myrtle was devout in her Christian Faith and an active member of her church, Heartland Baptist Church in Alton, for many years. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the church Choir and was always the first to lend a helping hand with any special projects or events.
Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Paulette and Tom Hydrick of Brighton; two granddaughters, Marlena Rogers and Sara Randall; a great granddaughter, Kelsey Rogers; a brother, Walter Taylor of Tennessee; four nieces, Nancy (Gene) Stone of Jerseyville, Linda Devening of Jerseyville and Sandra and Meredith of Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Yelliott; two grandsons, Christopher and Joshua Stephens; a great granddaughter, Kayla Yelliott; two grandsons in-law, Corey Randall and Harry Rogers; a brother, Eugene Taylor; a sister, Betty Conrad; a nephew, Charles Conrad; as well as a nephew in-law, Gary Devening.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Pastor Alex Melton officiating.
Burial will follow at the Kane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family, in care of the funeral home.
