Michell Summers Obituary

MICHELL SUMMERS

ALTON - Michell Leigh (Flatt) Summers, 55, passed away unexpectedly at 2:25 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026 in Alton.

She was born on May 13, 1970 in Carrollton, Illinois, and was raised by her mother, Tracy Baumgartner. Michell graduated with the Class of 1988 from Carrollton High School and went on to attend Greenville College, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Michell’s life was centered around the people she loved, and above all else were her two children, Jordan and Kenzi. Being their mother was the greatest blessing of her life, and she loved them with her whole heart. She was proud of the people they had become and the lives they were building, and she carried that pride with her every day.

Michell had a heart that was open to everyone. She had a beautiful, contagious smile and a way of making people feel welcome, comfortable and loved. She was known for her warm, tight hugs, the kind that made everything feel okay, even if just for a moment.

She loved to cook and took great pride in preparing meals for her family and friends, carrying on culinary traditions that had been passed down through the generations. She also had a green thumb and found joy in caring for her plants. Michell loved music and shared that love and talent with her children.  She was also a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed cheering them on whenever she could.

Michell loved her dog, Opal, and rarely went anywhere without her by her side. Opal was more than a pet, she was her constant companion.

Family meant everything to Michell. She held a very special bond with her grandmothers, Pauline Flatt, who she lovingly called “Nanny,” and Harriet Hubbs, known as “Hoppy.” She also cherished her role as an aunt. Known as “Aunt Chell,” not only to her nieces and nephews but also to the children of her close friends, she loved them all fearlessly and made each of them feel special and important.

She is survived by her two children, Jordan Summers of Wilmette and Kenzi Summers of Grand Junction, Colorado; her siblings, Nicole Turner of Charleston, Austin Graham of Charleston, Devan Baumgartner of Godfrey and Maura (Colby) Camerer of Carrollton; her nieces and nephews, Jalin Turner, Kenyan Turner, Kenli Graham, Ella Graham, Graesyn Graham, Marlee Dunham, Jax Camerer, Damon Summers, Blane Summers and Jaret Summers; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Tracy and Vince Baumgartner.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026 at The Charleston, 513 South Main Street in Carrollton.

Michell will be remembered for her kind heart, her beautiful smile, her love for her family and the way she made people feel when they were around her. She loved deeply, she hugged tightly and she left a lasting mark on the lives of those who knew her.
