MARY LANE

MEDORA – Mary Lucille Lane, 75, passed away at 8:44 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2023 in the Emergency Room at Jersey Community Hospital.

She was born in Springfield, Illinois on January 4, 1948, one of three children born to Louis Erwin and Ina Mary (Smith) Thompson.

She was formerly married to LeRoy Lane, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2004.

Mary spent the majority of her adult life residing in California, where she was employed in both the Healthcare field as well as dedicating her life as a foster parent.

She enjoyed her time in California, living in the mountains and especially enjoyed the peace and serenity of watching the snow fall over the mountain tops. Children held a very special in her heart, and her work in the foster system allowed her to enrich the lives of many throughout the years.

After settling back in Illinois, her volunteer efforts continued in other areas, dedicating many hours as a volunteer with the Jersey Community Hospital Foundation Resale Shop.

She was also blessed with the love and companionship of Johnny Scoggins, and together they have shared in many wonderful memories together in their 18 years together.

Also surviving are two children, Melissa Cullum of Jerseyville and Robert Pannell of Florida; a step-son, Jason Scoggins of Jerseyville; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister in-law, who she loved deeply, Shirley Thompson of Jerseyville; along with many nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew and niece, Louis (Trisha) Thompson and Tammy (Jimmy) Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Erwin Thompson; her mother and step-father, Ina and Lumie Scoggins; a son, Guadalupe Pannell; a daughter, Angela Pannell; a sister, Rita Wilson; as well as a brother, Gary Thompson.

Per her wishes, no public services will be held.
