MARY L. BURNS
SHIPMAN - Mary L. Burns, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:05 p.m., surrounded by family.

She was born in Alton, Illinois, and was the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Purvis) Podhorn.

She married Charles R. Burns on October 4, 1958, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Alton and he survives.

They were longtime members of St. Denis Catholic Church in Shipman until its closing.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven sons, seven daughters, six sons-in-law and seven daughters-in-law, Robert and Janice Burns, Thomas and Jackie Burns, Michael and Melanie Burns, Mary St. Peters and Bob Gonzales, Joseph and Julie Burns, Rita and John Craig, Joan and Eric Gowin, Carol and Lindell Loy, Nancy and Matt Buhs, David and Kari Burns, James and Amy Burns, Sarah and Adam Calloway, Daniel and Heather Burns and Julie and Andrew Bartlett, all who thought she was the BEST mom ever and thought the world of her.

She is also survived by 37 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Heinz and Norma Peipert-Novosell; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Nancy Podhorn, along with other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Podhorn.

There will be no visitation, per her request.

Friends and Family are invited to join her family to Celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Ramesh Matta as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Shipman.
