MARIE SHANKS

JERSEYVILLE - Marie Annabelle Shanks, 96, died at 2:10 a.m., Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Kane, Illinois on February 10, 1928, one of six children born to the late Virgil C. and Maude A. (Ray) Hetzel.

Marie was raised, along with her siblings, in Kane, and graduated from Kane High School.

She was employed with Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturing in Alton for 25 years, and was a devoted wife and mother, who took great pride in her home.

She married Robert Shanks on August 15, 1955 at the Kane Methodist Church and together they were blessed with 69 years of marriage and the joys of their two children.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Shanks of Jerseyville; her two children, Robert Shanks and Crystal Scheffel, both of Jerseyville; a sister, Pauline Whitlock of Jerseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William June Hetzel and Paul Hetzel; and two sisters, Berneice Woolsey and Tessie Mottaz.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Kane Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Kane Cemetery.
