LOLA BREWER NOWNING
JERSEYVILLE- Lola A. Brewer Nowning, 99, formerly of Villa Grove, Illinois, died Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Tuscola, Illinois on December 20, 1920 and was the second of ten children born to the late Ray Otis and Ima Jane (Austen) Navel.
She was raised in Tuscola, Illinois with her siblings and graduated in 1938 from Tuscola High School.
Lola lived a full, adventurous and happy life. She never shied away from a new experience and jumped at every opportunity for a trip. She treasured her family and every family gathering, especially if it took place in the kitchen or on the back deck. She was famous for her fried chicken, homemade noodles, cinnamon rolls, and apple dumplings. Lola always made sure there was plenty of food to go around, as she was always quick to announce that "There is always room for one more" and "the more the merrier". She was also known for a few more quotes as well, "Come When You Can" always followed by a wave and a smile, and one that we should all live by, "Speak Well of All, or Not At All".
She married Ralph Brewer Sr. on June 3, 1914 and together shared many years and the joys of their nine children. She later married Caleb Nowning and he preceded her in death on September 27, 1987.
Surviving are seven children and their spouses, Joanne and Eugene Newberry and Carolyn Oslin, both of Jerseyville; Kaye and Ron Hunter of Winston-Salem,NC; Sheryl and Larry Mulvaney of Villa Grove; Lisa Jones of Jerseyville; Dennis and Karen Brewer of Bloomingdale, Mi and Ralph and Margie Brewer of Decatur, Mi.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother and sister in law, Donald and Linda Navel if Rockville, In.; and a sister, Marie Magill of Bloomingdale, In.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Ray Brewer and Ronald David Brewer, a son in-law and seven brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday at the Living Hope Fellowship Church in Villa Grove, Illinois.
She will be laid to rest alongside her first husband and their two sons at the Villa Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Samaritans Purse.
