Larry Michael Patton

January 5, 1990 ~ August 12, 2023 (age 33) 33 Years Old

Obituary

WOOD RIVER – Larry Michael Patton, 33, died at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Alton.

He was born on January 5, 1990 in Granite City, Illinois, one of three sons born to Richard and Regina (Horn) Patton.

Larry grew up in Medora and graduated with the Class of 2009 from Southwestern High School.

Following his graduation, he enlisted with the United States Army in July of 2010. During his time as a member of the Army, he served as a M1A1 Abrams Crewmember and served our Country honorably with tours in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Germany. On September 9, 2017, he received his Honorable Discharge, however, his time of service and the bonds he created with his fellow service members remained an integral part of his life.

Upon returning home, he obtained employment with Cope Plastics prior to being hired on at Olin, where he has been employed as a Caster for the past four years.

Larry was a motorcycle enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed everything that came along with it – from the friendships made, the leisurely cruises on the open road and the many poker runs he was proud to participate in.

He enjoyed surrounding himself with the company of others and was always up for a competitive game of cornhole. On the outside, Larry presented with a tough and rigid personality and his sarcastic wit often times got him into trouble. In one of his final conversations he had with one of his coworkers, he was told “Sharing is caring”, to which Larry quickly responded, “Yes, but I don’t care”. Behind that tough guy image, however, was a big heart and a genuine concern for those he loved. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Simply put, to know Larry was to love him.

His family meant the world to him, and there was nothing too big or too small that he wouldn’t do for them. He had a special bond, most especially with his brothers, and his younger brother, Joshua, was tragically taken just hours later on Sunday morning.

While their hearts are truly shattered, the family finds peace in knowing that Larry and Joshua are together in a world free of this earthly worlds struggles.

Surviving are his parents, Richard and Regina Patton of Jerseyville; a brother and sister in-law, Daniel and Amber Horn of Brighton; his niece, Anna Horn; his grandparents, Rose and Jerry Witt of Marion and Richard Patton Sr. of Missouri; a very special aunt and cousin, Anetta and Aubrey Horn of Godfrey; along with aunts and uncles, Tom (Brenda) Horn of Greenfield, Bill Horn of Godfrey, Theresa (Norm) Warner of Granite City, Shirley (Andy) O’Brien of St. Louis, Missouri, Christine Engler and Valerie Stephens, both of Marion; cousins, Kaitlyn, Samantha, James, Dylan, Shelby, Miranda and Billy.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Diane Jenkins and Omer Earl Horn; a nephew, Justin Horn; as well as his beloved dog, Layla.
