JERSEYVILLE – Jeffrey Lynn Waters, 73, died at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 at his home in Jerseyville, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on April 2, 1951 in Carrollton, Illinois, one of three sons born to the late Derald and Ruth (Plummer) Waters.

Jeff graduated with the Class of 1969 from Jersey Community High School. He obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois, and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science Degree from Belleville Area College. In addition, he took courses to further his education at Beminji State.  

He began his long and proud career in Law Enforcement with the Festus, Missouri Police Department, and went on to work for the Illinois Department of Corrections, Washington Park Police Department, Vandalia Police Department, Patoka, Illinois Police Department, Ashland, Illinois Police Department and retired as a Police Officer with the East St. Louis Parks District in 2013. Following his retirement, he continued to work Security at various area establishments and venues.

He married the former Brenda Devening on July 29, 1978 at the Fieldon United Church of Christ. Together they were the proud parents of two daughters, and shared in many wonderful memories together throughout their 45 years of marriage.

Jeff was involved in many area Softball leagues throughout the years, creating many lasting friendships along the way. He also enjoyed target shooting, reading and was a self-proclaimed history buff.

His family meant everything to him, and he worked tirelessly to provide the best possible life for his wife and daughters. When his grandchildren came along, there was nothing that brought him greater joy than spending time with them all, and attending their various sporting events.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Waters of Jerseyville; two daughters and their spouses, Jamie and Joe Johns of Troy, Missouri and Whitney and Aron Mifflin of Godfrey; three grandchildren, Kaiden and Gracie Johns and Nora Mifflin; as well as two brothers and sisters in-law, Neil and Shelly Waters of Jerseyville and Brian and Jody Waters of Elsah.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Florence Waters and his maternal grandparents, Roscoe and Florence Plummer and Lela Finch.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Susnig Center Dining Hall located at: 401 Mound Street, Jerseyville, IL 62052.
