JAMES RENO
CARROLLTON - James Keith Reno, 65, died at 11:11 a.m., Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by loved ones.
As the story goes (which might explain how Jim got his storytelling ability), Jim was born in Grafton, Illinois and "entered into the machine", on June 11, 1959, delivered by his Grandpa, as the doctor took too long to get to the house. This too, might explain how Jim always did things his way and on his time.
From an early age, Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He relished his time on the farm, enjoying and marveling at the beauty of nature, and tending to whatever animal might cross his path. Jim had a unique ability to talk to anyone, under any circumstance, and was quite the storyteller. He was full of “Jim'ism's”, and loved to debate any topic (or some might say argue), but as an intellectual, he was always up for a good conversation, usually with a Pabst Blue Ribbon in hand.
He loved old school classic Rock, and listened to KSHE 95 religiously, loved Harley Davidson’s, and could fix anything, mastering the style of “Jim-geneering”.
He graduated in 1977 from Carrollton High School, and has been employed as a union laborer for many years through Labor Local 218 out of Godfrey. His true passion however, could be found on the farm.
He married the former Nancy Jane Berry on April 14, 1984 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Carrollton, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter and son in-law, Jessie Marie and Joseph Roundcount of Jerseyville; a granddaughter, Iva Dean Roundcount; his mother, Sally (Tim) Widowski of Jerseyville; a sister and brother in-law, Melody and Rick Frank of Jerseyville; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother Keith Lee "Jake" and Betty (Camerer) Reno; his grandparents, Roy and Lucille Reno; and his father in-law and mother in-law, Carl Richard "Red" and Iva Dean (Daniels) Berry; and a half brother, Paul Kent Gillen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Baptist Church, officiated by his cousin, Rev. Michael Reno.
Memorials may be given to Carrollton High School FFA in care of the funeral home.
