Ida Watson Obituary

GRAFTON - Ida “Idie” Mae Watson, 90, died at 5:20 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Calhoun Nursing & Rehab in Hardin.

She was born on September 23, 1933, in Grafton and was the daughter of Thomas and Elsie (Plummer) Church.

Ida married Milton “Mitch” Watson on February 14, 1953, in Grafton and together they enjoyed 70 years of marriage before his death on March 11, 2023.

Ida was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be deeply missed by her family.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her only grandchild, Isabell.  Ida and her husband also loved to travel and visited 43 of the 50 United States.  Most of the time, Ida could be found at her husband’s side, involved in whatever project he had planned for them on their property in Grafton.  Those plans often included Ida’s brother, Bill.

Ida held several jobs over her life but chose to stay at home after her daughter was born.  After Mitch’s retirement, they ran a produce stand for several years in Grafton with the help of most of their family.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Rick Gallegos, a granddaughter and her fiancé, Isabell Gallegos and Brennan Cox, a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitch Watson, her parents, Thomas and Elsie Church, her brothers, Ralph Church, Thomas “Tink” Church and Russell Church, and a sister, Virgina “Giny” Britt.

Per her wishes, no public services will be held.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, in care of the Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
