GLENN THOMAS
GODFREY - Hubert Glenn Thomas, 95, passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Liberty Village in Jerseyville, Illinois, exactly one week after the passing of his beloved wife, Virginia. His final days mirrored the devotion that defined their lives together, as he followed her after 69 years of marriage marked by love, partnership, and unwavering commitment.
Glenn was born on May 3, 1930, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, to Harry and Zoe (Huber) Thomas. He graduated with the Class of 1948 from Pleasant Hill High School and carried with him the values of hard work, integrity, and perseverance throughout his life.
On January 14, 1956, Glenn married Virginia Mae Sweetman of Hardin, Illinois, in Hardin.Together, they built a life centered on family, purpose, and shared experiences. Virginia preceded him in death on January 3, 2026, and their bond remains a defining chapter of both of their lives.
Glenn is survived by his three sons and their families: David Thomas and his fiancée, Robin Morrow, of Georgetown, Texas; Douglas and Linda Thomas of Godfrey, Illinois; and Dennis and Christine Thomas of Republic, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and their spouses, Kelsey and Aaron Swan of Crane, Missouri, Gregory Thomas of Godfrey, Illinois, Samuel and Kathryn Thomas of St. Louis, Missouri, and Amanda Thomas of Anchorage, Alaska. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Valerie and Luke Swan of Crane, who brought him great joy.
Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1953. While stationed in Japan, he distinguished himself as an award-winning photographer, a role that reflected both his technical skill and his attention to detail, traits that would continue to define his professional life.
Following his military service, Glenn earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Southern Illinois University in Alton in 1959. He went on to spend 31 years with the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation. He concluded his career as Manager of Cost Accounting, where he was highly respected for his integrity, leadership, and strong work ethic. Glenn was heavily involved in the F-4 and F-15 fighter programs and took great pride in contributing to work that mattered.
While his professional accomplishments were significant, Glenn’s greatest pride and purpose were found in his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a steady presence who worked intentionally to teach his three sons what it meant to be honorable men. His guidance, values, and example will continue to shape their lives and the generations that follow.
In retirement, Glenn enjoyed working on his golf game and spending time alongside Virginia, traveling extensively throughout the United States as well as the United Kingdom. In later years, they found great enjoyment in organizing numerous bus tours to destinations across the country. Together, they were active members of the OASIS retirement group for many years, where they formed lasting friendships and shared countless memories.
