HERSCHEL EDWARD ANDREWS, SR.

Herschel Edward Andrews Sr., 99, passed away peacefully at 1:40 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor.

He was born on in Rosedale Township, Jersey County, Illinois on November 18, 1925 to the late Charles and Nettie (Edwards) Andrews.

Growing up, Herschel worked on the family farm. He then served with the United States Navy during World War II, from March 29, 1944 until January 25, 1946 during World War II. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for Louis Gorman and Gorman Brothers Concrete, retiring in August of 2020 after 73 years of employment with the company.

On September 3, 1949, he married Martha Mae Burge, who preceded him in death on April 1, 1999. Together, they had one son, Herschel E. “Andy” Andrews, Jr.

His longtime companion, Virginia F. Collins, has been by his side for the nearly 25 years.

In addition to Virginia, Herschel is survived by a grandson, Patrick E. Andrews of Iowa.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Herschel was preceded in death by his son, Andy of Jerseyville; and a brother, William L. Andrews of Jacksonville, Florida.

Per his wishes, no services will be held at this time.

Those desiring may make a memorial in Herschel’s name to a charity of their choice.
