HELEN STONE

JERSEYVILLE – Helen L. Stone, 81, passed away peacefully at 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, with her family by her side. 

She was born on August 24, 1944 in Obion County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Horace and Ruby (Glidewell) Warix.

Helen married William “Stoney” Stone on November 13, 1961, and together they built a life centered around family, raising four children along the way. They shared 45 years of marriage before his passing on January 1, 2006. Their life together was built on devotion to their family and a quiet determination to always keep moving forward, no matter what life placed in front of them.

She worked for many years as a Nurses Aid at the former Willow Rose Health Care in Jerseyville, where caring for others came naturally to her. Helen had a warm spirit and a gentle way about her that made people feel comfortable in her presence.

In her free time, she enjoyed attending yard sales, playing bingo and spending time with the friends she made while residing at Jerseyville Estate. Those who knew her best remember her constant smile, the kind that could light up a room and make others feel instantly welcome.

Helen’s life was marked by both love and loss. She was the last surviving of her siblings and endured the heartbreaking loss of her husband and three sons. Yet through it all, she continued to carry on with quiet strength, always placing the needs of her family before her own.

Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family, especially when everyone could gather together at the same time. Those moments meant everything to her. When she wasn’t with family, she could often be found relaxing with a good movie on the Hallmark Channel, enjoying the simple comforts of home.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Sitzmore of Jerseyville; two grandchildren whom she lovingly raised, Bradley Stone of Godfrey and Deborah (Taylor) Benoist of Godfrey; as well as her grandchildren, Keith Stone of Jerseyville, Brett (Katie) Sitzmore of New Jersey and Chelsey Sitzmore of Jerseyville; along with ten great-grandchildren, Breeya, Katlyn, Ashlynn, Thomas, Ryder, Michael, Ellie, Walker, Lila and William.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Brian Stone, Thomas Stone and Randy Stone; a great-grandson in infancy, Jack Cecil; three sisters, Carlene Hartmann, Brenda Warix and JoAnn Drulard; and three brothers, William “Sonny” Warix, Donald Warix and Ronald Warix.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday. Her grandson, Bradley Stone, will officiate.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
