GENE PARSELL

JERSEYVILLE - Gene Edwin Parsell, 83, died at 1:56 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, Missouri. 

He was born on November 26, 1941 in Jerseyville, Illinois, the son of the late Stuart Peter and Catherine (Stephenson) Parsell, Sr. Gene lived a life shaped by service, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for simple pleasures. He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps and later as a member of the Army National Guard, carrying with him the values of discipline and commitment throughout his life.

On November 20, 1965, he married Connie Sue Morrison at Fieldon United Church of Christ, and together they were blessed with two daughters. Connie preceded him in death on January 10, 2002. 

Gene worked for many years as a Telephone Repairman with GTE. Outside of work, he enjoyed the things that brought him joy and kept him connected to family, friends, and the outdoors. He loved a good game of dominos or poker, found peace in duck hunting and gardening, and was perfectly content watching the Grit television station. He was also proud to serve alongside fellow veterans as a member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 Color Guard.

Surviving are his two daughters, Clara (Robert) Christie of Jerseyville and Julie Parsell (Chad Roach) of Richmond Heights, Missouri; along with five grandchildren, Cooper Roach of Bloomington, Tara Assi of Los Angeles, California, Sami (Katrina) Assi of Cleveland, Ohio, Talia Assi of Silverthorne, Colorado, and Grace Assi of Lafayette, Colorado.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John Stuart Parsell, William Parsell, Richard Parsell and Stuart Peter Parsell, Jr.; as well as two sisters, Ruth Virginia Parsell in infancy and Doris “Dodie” Meyer.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 6 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to Evelyn’s House, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
