FRANCIS GODAR

JERSEYVILLE – Francis Roman Godar, 90, passed away at 10:16 p.m., on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at his residence.

He was born on November, 27, 1935 to the late Norbert and Mary (Becker) Godar, Sr.

He married the former Betty Quinn on November 12, 1955 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.

Francis was a man who found his greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments. Time spent with his family, sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories with them all was one of his favorite things.

He had a passion for gardening, especially tending to his tomatoes and peppers. His garden was more than a hobby; it was a place of peace and satisfaction.

He enjoyed a good cigar from time to time, an easy way for him to unwind and relax.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his two children, Lisa Toohey (Todd Petry) of Jerseyville, and David Godar (Sue Moody) of Lebanon, TN; two sisters and a brother, Delores Fuhler and Marilyn Fuhler both of Brussels, and Roger (Patricia) Godar of Bethalto; 5 grandchildren, Kelsey (Kevin) Grate of O’Fallon, MO., Jessica (Tyler) Northrup of O’Fallon, MO.; Madeline (Alex Jezik) Toohey of Florissant, MO.; Maeve Toohey of Sneads Ferry, NC.; and Matthew (Elam) Toohey of Florissant, MO.; as well as five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norbert Godar, Sr., and Larry Godar; as well as two sisters, Geneva Breden and Virginia Robeen.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 10 a.m.

Burial will immediately follow at Grimes-Neeley Cemetery in Jerseyville.
