EVA JOANN BYLAND
CARROLLTON – Eva JoAnn Byland, 85, passed away at 1:28 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2022 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville.
She was born on July 20, 1940 in Spanky, Illinois to the late Jesse and Hazel (Daniels) Margeson.
She married the love of her life, Ronald L. Byland on January 9, 1960 at the Kane Baptist Church, and together they shared 51 years together before his passing on January 21, 2011.
JoAnn was known for her story telling, sharing anything and everything she knew. She worked at the Carrollton Public Library where she became affectionately known as the “library grandma” to countless children who adored her.
She was deeply dedicated to her community. She was an active member of the Greene County Historical Society, the daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Hat Ladies, and many more. Throughout these groups, she built friendships and spread joy wherever she went.
She is survived by her three children, Rhonda Newton of Eldred, Connie (Paul) Enochs of Carrollton, and Steven (Holly) Byland of Maryville; grandchildren, Jason (Samantha) Rawe of Jerseyville, Jeremy Rawe of Washington State, Nathan (Brittany) Enochs of Carrollton, Lance (Samantha) Enochs of Brighton, Daniel Enochs of Carrollton, Megan (Fiance, Shane McKenzie) of Maryville, and Tyler Byland of Corvallis, Oregon, Mike and Cheryl Rawe of Grafton; great-grandchildren, Jase, Maci, Madison, Paislee, Dani, Carter, Johnny, Lillian, Lincoln, Desmond, Sadie, and Hudson; a sister, Joan (Cotton) Brannan of Jacksonville.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clay Newton, siblings, Myrtle Margeson, Lola Abbott, Marvin Margeson, Darriel Margeson, Dorothy Crull, and Margie Lamb; two special sisters-in-law, Emma Dee Margeson and Ethel Margeson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Graveside services will immediately follow at the Carrollton City Cemetery in Carrollton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Carrollton Public Library, Carrollton Methodist Church, or to the Jerseyville Manor Activity Department.
