Earnest Allison Obituary

EARNEST ALLISON

JERSEYVILLE – Earnest James “Ernie” Allison, 90, passed away at 4:40 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his home in Jerseyville.

He was born on September 1, 1933 in Nebo, Illnois to the late Russell Earnest and Erma Alberta (Scranton) Allison. Ernie spent his childhood residing between Nebo and Venice, Illinois, graduating with the Class of 1952 from Venice High School, where he was a standout athlete.

Growing up as part of a large family, Ernie learned early on the values of hard work and commitment to family.

He married the former Charlotte Ruth “Pat” Lancaster on February 20, 1971 in Granite City, Illinois, and together they were the proud parents of three daughters.

Ernie and Pat resided in Hardin for 35 years, ultimately settling in Jerseyville in 2005, where they have remained for the past 18 years.

Never one to shy away from a hard day’s work, He retired from Consolidated Aluminum in Venice, after 30 years of service. He then continued his working career with Heidtman Steel in Granite City for over ten years, before officially retiring.

A true “man’s man”, Ernie was active in area basketball, baseball and softball leagues in his younger years, and as he grew older took up the sports of bowling and golfing. He could often be found working on his cars or woodworking, and thoroughly enjoyed the memories he created with his family while camping.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 53 years, Pat Allison of Jerseyville; three daughter, Vickie Jerrell of Greenville, Cindy (Daniel) Smith of New Athens and Angie (Michael) Sagez of Hardin; six grandsons, Derek and Micah Jerrell, Keith and Ethan Sagez and Daniel Smith Jr. and James Smith; a granddaughter, Susanna Rose; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother in-law, Mary (Wendell) Chester of Granite City and Joyce Cook of Bonne Terre, Missouri.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Allison, Neva Allison, Eva Kurtz, Nina Williams and Wanda Mae Renner; two brothers, Glen Allison and David Allison Sr.; as well as a son in-law, Gary “Termite” Jerrell.
