Doris Shaw Obituary

DORIS SHAW
GREENVILLE – Doris Jean (Cunningham) Shaw, 85, passed away at 7:25 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2020 at Highland Healthcare Center in Highland.

She was born on March 3, 1935 in Medora and was  daughter of the late Harry and Grace (Gaffney) Cunningham.

Doris grew up in Medora and was a 1952 graduate of Medora High School.

She married Kenneth Shaw Sr. on June 7, 1952 in Waterloo and together they shared in 46 years of marriage prior to his death on January 7, 1999. The two resided for a short time in Omaha prior to relocating back to the East Alton/Rosewood Heights area where they resided for nearly 20 years before moving to New Douglas where they remained until Kenneth’s passing, at which time Doris relocated to Greenville.

Doris devoted her life to providing a loving home to her husband and their four sons. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the guitar and the organ and was an avid sports fan – most particularly following NASCAR, baseball and horse racing. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors and gardening and relished in any opportunity to spend time with her family.

While Doris’s life was blessed in countless ways, it was not short of heartaches along the way. In addition to the loss of her husband, Doris was faced with the loss of two of her beloved sons in her lifetime, but she found strength in the comfort of her family and her faith to guide her through.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter in-law, Kenneth and Janet Shaw of Highland and Kevin Shaw of Carlyle; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Shaw; two sons, Brian Shaw and Mark Shaw; five brothers, Harry Cunningham, Robert Cunningham, Donald Cunningham, Marvin Cunningham and Larry Cunningham; as well as eight sisters, Dorothy Cope, Helen Thurston, Betty Jones, Bernice Buck, Wanda Wallace, Nellie Taylor, Sue Moreland and Carol Rees.

Due to mandates surrounding COVID-19, private services will be held and burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
