DONALD G. "WIDELOAD" WILSON, JR.
WOOD RIVER - Donald Gene Wilson, Jr., 70. died at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7m 2026 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 30, 1955 in Alton, Illinois and was the son of the late Donald Gene and Joyce J. (Ferguson) Wilson, Sr.
He was raised in the catholic faith, a foundation that remained with him throughout his life. He dedicated many years of service to Jersey County, working as a Jailer with the Jersey County Sheriff's Department. Prior to that, he served his community as a paramedic, answering calls and caring for others in moments that mattered most. He also served as a Deputy Coroner in Jersey County under Larry Alexander, continuing his lifelong commitment to public service.
He was a member of the Jerseyville Knights of Columbus and the Sons of the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492, organizations that reflected both his faith and his respect for service and community. Outside of work, he found enjoyment on the golf course and in the simple moments spent with those around him. Known to many as "Wideload," he carried a personality that was as memorable as his nickname, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Danny Wiegand of Wood River; along with numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Leta Wilson and Thomas and Romona Ferguson and Alice Hooley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
