Donald Matthew Walsh, Sr

Donald Matthew Walsh, Sr., 96, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab in Jerseyville.

He was born in Jerseyville, IL on November 12, 1928, the only child, born to the late Magdalena, “Lena” (Kaup) and Matthew Joseph Walsh.

He graduated from Jersey Township High School with the class of 1946 and went on to serve our country honorably during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, The Knights of Columbus, The Moose Lodge,Jerseyville American Legion Post #492, and the Tri-County Antique Club.

He married the former Eva Drainer in 1953, and they wereblessed with three children.

Don enjoyed a 48-year career at the Ford Motor Company in Hazelwood, MO, retiring in 2001, as well as overseeing the Walsh Farms in Jerseyville, which started in 1868 with the arrival of James Walsh from Ireland.

Surviving is his daughter, Vickie (Dan) Herlihey of Loveland Colorado, son, Donald M. (Dee) Walsh, Jr. of Jerseyville, IL and Grandchildren, Erin and Colleen Herlihey, Mathew (Kathy) Walsh, Andy (Chala) Walsh, Natalie (Ben) Titus, Aaron (Ann) Copeland, Laura (Joshua) Neel and nine Great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Walsh, on October 31, 2018.

Donald lived 96 years and 6 months, his mother Lena lived 96 years and 4 months.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father Ramesh Babu Matta officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School in Jerseyville, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
