DONALD LURTON

JERSEYVILLE – Donald Lurton, 89, passed away at 7:24 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Hawthorne Inn in Jerseyville, where he resided.

He was born on August 14, 1935 in Dow, Illinois, the son of the late William P. and Elizabeth (McDow) Lurton.

Don pursued his education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and Principia College in Elsah, where he focused his studies on textiles. His career reflected his passion for the field, beginning at Bertman’s Department Store in Jerseyville. He later served as a salesman for Ely Walker in St. Louis and Nashville until he opened his own company and served as President of Cloth of Gold in South Carolina, where he made significant contributions to the industry.

He is survived by a sister, Jan Dunn of Hollister, California and a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Donna Lurton of Carrollton. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember him with love.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer William (Sue) Lurton and Clayton (Marlene) Lurton, as well as his sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice (Charles) Dodson and Mary (Richard) Brainerd.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.

Memorials may be given to CASA of Jersey County in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, Illinois, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
