Donald Lane Obituary

DONALD LANE

JERSEYVILLE – Donald Rodney Lane, 76, died at 10:35 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on November 18, 1943 in Annapolis, Maryland and was the only child born to the late Kenneth Russell and Blanche Catherine (Moore) Lane.

Don served our country with the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam War Veteran.

In the 1970’s, Don relocated from New York to Florida, where he was employed for many years in the Patrol Division with the Orange County Sheriff Department, prior to his retirement.

He married the former Joyce Scoggins in April of 2005 and the two relocated to Jerseyville to be closer to family. Albeit far too short, their marriage spanned 7 years and in that short time frame, Don was blessed to be welcomed by Joyce’s family as one of their own.

Don enjoyed collected coins; studying space and taking in all around him while sipping on his Glenlivet. He took great pride in enjoying the simple things in life and was proud of his life of service to our country – both with the Army and his tenure in Law Enforcement.

Surviving are two step-daughters, Lisa and Mary Morrison of Jerseyville; Diane Crump of Jerseyville; a daughter in-law, Mindy Marshall of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren, Kathryn (George) VanKirk-Thayer of Alton; Brandon Feiling of Jerseyville; Jessica Goff of Chatanooga, TN; Ashley (Kevin) McCarthy of South Carolina; CJ (Alissa) Crump of Jerseyville; Hiley Crump of Jerseyville and Marley Marshall of Jerseyville; along with five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce on October 30, 2012; his step-son, Martin “Marty” Marshall on October 18, 2013; as well as his beloved dog, Marshall.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
