JERSEYVILLE – Dolores Kay Kohler, 77, passed away unexpectedly at 8:22 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at her home in Jerseyville.

She was born on October 26, 1946 in Clinton, Illinois and was the daughter of the late Roy and Doris (Finfrock) Mears.

Dolores spent the early years of her childhood residing in Clinton and various other communities, prior the family settling in Minier, where she graduated with the Class of 1964 from Minier High School.

For the majority of her adult life, she resided in Jersey County, where she raised her two children. She was known for her strong work ethic, and was employed for 25 years as an Administrative Assistant at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

She enjoyed upholstering furniture pieces and spending time tending to her rose bushes, which were always in pristine condition and the envy of the neighborhood.

She also may have just been the biggest fan of Elvis Presley to ever live! She “Couldn’t Help Falling in Love” with any and everything that he did. Following a close second to her love of The King of Rock and Roll, was her love for Cadillac. Throughout her life, she owned many different models, and always maintained them in the most pristine condition.

Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Christina and Michael Smith and a son, Kenneth Kohler, all of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Richard Scott Baker, Krista Smith, Kaleb Kohler and Hailey Kohler; a great grandson, Kody Smith; a brother, Lee Mears of Hudson, Illinois; as well as a sister, Kathleen Schroeder of Alaska.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee “JR” Dundy, Jr. on March 11, 2019.

Private interment was held at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville was entrusted with arrangements.
