DENNIS SHAW
GODFREY – Dennis Duane Shaw, 61, formerly of Shipman, died peacefully at 4:40 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at his residence.
He was born on August 3, 1958 in Litchfield, to the late Donald and Dora (Davison) Shaw. Dennis grew up in Wood River, where he graduated with the class of 1976 from East Alton-Wood River High School.
He married to the former Shelia Eggert on June 21, 1986 in Edwardsville and together they raised their son and daughter in Shipman, where they resided for over 30 years.
He worked for 23 years at Laclede Steel, prior to the plants closing, at which time he furthered his education at Ranken Technical College, graduating with honors. Ultimately, he retired as a Laborer with Local #100/397.
Dennis was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and searching for arrowheads. Above all, he enjoyed surrounding himself with the company of his family and friends - and with Dennis there truly was no difference between the two – to know Dennis, was to have a friend in your corner for life.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Shelia Shaw of Godfrey; a son, Jacob Shaw of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Bailey Shaw of Alton; a brother, Lyndell Shaw of Red Bud; as well as his uncle and aunts, Howard & Joan Shaw of Jerseyville and Marylyn Bonnett of Nevada, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dora Shaw; as well as an infant daughter, B. Shaw.
Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
