DEAN MONTGOMERY

PITTSFIELD  -  Dean Allen Montgomery Sr., 87, formerly of Jerseyville, died suddenly at 10:57 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2025 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.

He was born in Granton, Wisconsin on June 2, 1938, and was the son of Robert Oren and Pauline (Smith) Montgomery.

His family moved to Jersey County when he was two years of age, and called Jersey County home his entire life, just recently moving to Pittsfield two years ago.

He graduated in 1956 from Jersey Community High in Jerseyville, and served with the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne.

Dean was a self employed entrepreneur his entire life, serving the Jerseyville community through ownership of Montgomery Feed, and lastly A-1 Machine Shop, where he utilized his talent and skills as a welder and machinist.

He was also very active in the community, contributing his time to many local organizations, including the Moose Lodge where he served as an officer for 10 years, served on the Jersey Community Unit School District 100 on the school board, Fieldon Fire Protection District serving as a Trustee, and later as President, and was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion.

What spare time he was able to find, he filled it with some of the things that he loved the most, and brought him the most joy, all of which included being surrounded by his family and friends.  Whether it was riding motorcycles, RV Camping, fishing and traveling, he still managed to find time tinkering in his wood shop, where he was known for building furniture.

He married the former Margaret Mary Koenig on February 14, 1959 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and together they shared 55 years together before her death on April 21, 2014.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Pamela and Greg Steinacher of Jerseyville and Ann and Joan Montgomery of Taylorville;  two grandsons, Keith (Natalie) Steinacher of Dow and Ryan Steinacher of Rosewood Heights; three great grandsons, Alex and Sean Steinacher and Evan Dean Steinacher; along with two brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Martha Montgomery of Jerseyville and Robert and Gloria Montgomery of Bunker Hill.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Dean Allen Montgomery Jr on January 23, 2013; three sisters, Paula Jensen Lancaster, Jeanette Carlson and Joyce Lunceford; and an infant brother, Kevin Montgomery.
