DAVID “RED DOG” FELTS

BRUSSELS – David Ray “Red Dog” Felts, 73, passed away at 3:17 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.

David was born on June 2, 1951 in East St. Louis, Illinois, to the late James and Geraldine (Whorton) Felts. A 1969 graduate of Cahokia High School, David soon joined the workforce at General Motors, where he dedicated himself to his role on the assembly line. He put his career on hold to serve his country proudly in the United States Navy, where he was honorably discharged in February of 1976. He then returned to General Motors, where he continued working until his well-earned retirement after 30 years.

After retiring, David, affectionately known as “Red Dog” to his friends and family, moved to Brussels, Illinois. There, he found joy in the peacefulness of life along the river, where he could often be found observing the natural beauty around him. He was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the St. Louis Cardinals, always cheering his teams on with passion.

Red Dog was known for his big heart and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He cherished the times spend with family and friends, particularly with his beloved cousin, Maxine McIntosh of Jerseyville, who held a special place in his heart. His best friend, Mike Yarbrough of Granite City, was like a brother to him, and they shared many adventures and memories throughout their lives.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Following the service, David will be laid to rest alongside his mother at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights, Illinois, in the quiet serenity of nature, a place he so deeply cherished.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jersey Community High School Automotive Department to support young adults pursuing careers in the trade, reflecting David’s belief in hard work and dedication.
