DAVID ROBERTSON
JERSEYVILLE – David James, Robertson, passed away at 12:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital from a brief battle with brain cancer.
My dad, Dave, was born on March 6, 1963, the youngest to Woodrow Wilson and Willie Earl (Peoples) Robertson.
He graduated from Jerseyville where he played football and that love began. He had several childhood friendships and high school friends that lasted all the way to the end. He was a stranger to none, his laugh was truly one of a kind, always happy and smiling.
He served proudly in the United State Air Force, stationed in both Japan, as well as Spain. It was there, when he had his first born, Taylor, before moving back to Jerseyville.
Dave has several jobs throughout his life, a beer truck driver, a salesman, a bartender at several places in town, which led him to 518 South where most of the town might know him from as he worked there many years as a bartender. He went on to LeCordon Bleu and got his degree in culinary, which led him back to 518 for a second time, before it closed with him running the back of the house.
Along with many friendships from 518, he met Susan in 2001, and together they worked side by side through several kitchens and their love story began. With Susan came two bonus daughters, Heather and Amanda, whom he treated like his own from day one and to them, he was dad.
He loved his momma, his entire family, Susan, his kids, chasing hobbies with Brandon, all of his grandkids, big family dinners, especially holidays, golf, Sunday cruises around the horn with Susan, supporting the local gin and tonic providers, watching football all day, didn’t miss very many WWE nights with Amanda, throwing darts in multiple leagues with numerous friendships growing from that. He knew everyone and loved many. He was the biggest teddy bear as well as the biggest agitator. He’d call you into a room just to say he loved you. He’d push a bruise when you were showing him what happened when you were in pain. He loved phone calls with everyone just to see what they were doing.
In 2011, he became a stay-at-home Popi, the most rewarding job he ever had. Never miss an opportunity to pick them up from school, teaching them how to ride a bike and numerous other essential life lessons. From aggravating them, to kissing any cuts and bruises, to being the best listener of all their gossip, to being their biggest supporter in all their activities, he truly was the best.
Dave is survived by his wife, Susan; four children, Taylor, Brandon (Courtney), Heather, and Amanda; 2 sisters, Margaret (Larry) Rawlings of Jerseyville, Dorothy Smith of Mississippi, Billy (Kay Reno) Robertson of Jerseyville, and Paul (Laura) Robertson of Grafton; 9 grandchildren, Brooklynn, Miley, Evan, Nora, Raegan, Hadley, Charlie, Troy, and Judah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Robertson, and a brother in-law, Jack Smith; a nephew, Brian Rue, as well as the Las Vegas Raiders Football team.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at DJ's Pub & Grill in Jerseyville.
