DANNY WATERS


DONNELLSON - Danny Lee Waters, 77, died at 3:52 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.


He was born on September 13, 1948, in Jerseyville, Illinois, the son of the late Robert Lee and Ethel Marie (Bridges) Waters.


Danny proudly served his country with the United States Army. Following his military service, he went on to work for many years as a correctional officer at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro. 


Outside of his career, Danny found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid pigeon racer and a proud member of the Illini Pigeon Racing Club, a hobby that brought him both challenge and camaraderie. He also enjoyed fishing, taking road trips, and spending time with his faithful dog, Buddy.


He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Becky Waters, Jr.; a daughter, Lorena Pohlman; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Waters; and several beloved aunts and uncles, Bernice Roland, Mildred (Vernon) Ayres, Howard Bridges and Floy Bridges.


Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.


Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, where the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 will conduct military honors.


Memorials may be given to the Riverbend Humane Society.
