CHESTER WARIX

DOW - Chester Edward Warix passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018, at his son Jeff’s home in Bunker Hill, Illinois where he had resided for the past four months and was under hospice care the last 2 months.

He was the son of Zady B. and Lottie Mae (Crigger) Warix. He was born May 13, 1932 in Tiptonville, Tennessee, across the highway from his beloved Reelfoot Lake, where he spent many vacation days.

He was a member of the National Guard and served time with the Army in Hokkaido, Japan from 1953-1955. He was a Teamster Union Member and a member of the NRA. He was a former police officer in Jerseyville, and he retired, after working for over 30 years, from Olin in East Alton, Illinois as a truck driver.

In his younger days he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed taking care of his huge yard and working in his wood shop, where he made many items for his family. He liked watching westerns on TV, playing cards with his friends and family, and taking trips “down home” to Tennessee.

He married the former Violet Dunn July 26, 1952. In addition to his wife, Vi, of 66 years, he is survived by his son, Jeff and Deborah Warix of Bunker Hill and his son Todd Warix of Delhi.

He has 10 wonderful grandchildren that he felt blessed to have. Justin and Betty Warix of Soldotna, Alaska, Jerad and Jennifer Warix of Alton, James and Melissa Warix of Alton, Joe and Erica Warix of Bethalto, Katherine Warix of Bunker Hill, Abigail Warix of Bunker Hill, Rachel and Stuart Bailey of Rome, Georgia, Jacob and Jennifer Warix of Bunker Hill, Emily Warix of Bunker Hill, Sarah Warix of Bunker Hill.

He loved and was entertained by his great grandchildren, Emily, Marisa, Rebecca, Joe and Tony Warix of Alaska. Carson, Greyson, “Josie”, and Weston Warix, Olivia and Ada Warix, Madison, Jackson, and McKinley Warix and Eva Warix, all who reside locally.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and also by his only daughter, Denise Annette McKean, on January 13, 2007; two brothers, Horace Warix and Morris Warix; three sisters, Madge Finch, Mary Prather, and Patsy Jones; a great grandson, infant Jasper Revan Warix; and his in-laws, Kevin and Cleta Dunn.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 15, from 4 to 8 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, November 16 at Delhi Baptist Church, with his son and grandson, Pastors Jeff and Jacob Warix officiating. Interment will be at the Richwoods cemetery near Athensville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Delhi Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 60 years.
